Benson was born in Ichama, Benue State. He initially played soccer before being introduced to American football by his school teacher. He then connected with people playing flag football, which sparked his dream of pursuing the sport.

He was recruited to the NFL Academy through social media after impressing at the NFL Africa Camp in Kenya in 2023.

Alongside his A-Level studies in Sociology, Photography, and Art, he enjoys staying active through dancing, reading, and other fun activities. A fan of the Minnesota Vikings, he looks up to Brian Asamoah as a role model on the field.
