Malachy was born and raised in Birmingham, England. He initially played Gaelic football and soccer, influenced by his stepdad, who coaches American football and his Irish heritage, which introduced him to Gaelic football.

He connected with the NFL Academy through social media, and after other players recommended him to the coaches, he attended a trial day and earned his place in the program.

He is also a fan of the Jacksonville Jaguars.
