Shams was born in Daraa, Syria, and lived there for six years before moving to Vienna, Austria, where he spent the rest of his childhood. He was introduced to American football by a friend from elementary school and started playing at the age of seven. Shams played for the Danube Dragons until 2023, and then spent two years in the United States at the Governor’s Academy.

He was recruited to the NFL Academy by Coaches Hagen, Docal, and Baker.

Alongside his studies in Religion Studies, English, and Business Studies, he enjoys ancient history, basketball, and exploring different religions. A fan of the Baltimore Ravens, his favourite NFL player is Jalen Carter.
